ALGIERS-A cache containing a large quantity of arms and ammunition was discovered Friday in Adrar by a detachment of the People's National Army (ANP), announced Saturday the National Defence Ministry in a communiqué.
"As part of counterterrorism and border security, and thanks to the exploitation of information, an Army detachment conducted a search patrol in Adrar (3rd Military Region) near the borders on 10 February 2017 and discovered a cache of arms and ammunition containing: 1 SPG-9 gun, 2 machine guns of 14.5 mm calibre, 1 machine gun of 12.7 mm calibre, 1 PKT machine gun, 2 rifle binoculars of 7.62x54 mm calibre and 3 RPK machine guns," said the source.
The cache also contains "2 Kalashnikov machine guns, 1 SKS semi-automatic rifle, 1 repeating rifle, 1 MAS-36 rifle, 7 D30 shells, 15 mortar shells of 60 mm calibre, 18 SPG-9 rockets of 73 mm calibre, 3 RPG-7 rockets, 2 Grad BM missiles, 10 F1 grenades and a large quantity of ammunition amouting to 7,098 bullets of various calibres," added the source.
"The results achieved on the ground confirm once again Army units' commitment and determination to guarantee security of our borders and foil any attempt to undermine security of the national territory," stressed the ministry.
